something wierd

Filed under: posts — Nrub @ 2:18 pm

I find it kind of strange that I have now been living in California for about five years, and haven’t once felt an earthquake until now. It’s not like we haven’t had them, I just haven’t noticed them, and now this past week there have been two that I have felt. Nothing big but still just a little weird.

Update! To bring up this past sunday, at least how I remembered it. I was sleeping, quite contently. I was in such a bliss that nothing was going to disturb my wonderful peace, especially not my parents. So of course my dad tries to wake me, no good I just fall right back to sleep. I told him I wanted to sleep for another hour, and he proceded to shake the house until I woke up. I got up then somewhat annoyed and realized he couldn’t have possibly been mad enough to shake the house like that. Then I contemplated going back to bed, Hmmmm… yeah the bed sounded nice. but the wrath of god obviously wanted me awake at that time, so I figured it was best to stay up. final tally: PJ- Zero, Dad- One, God- Wins.

Open Source and the best way to explain it.

Filed under: posts — Nrub @ 8:59 pm

It seems that all the time people who just can’t seem to understand why anyone would do anything for free want to know what is up with open source software, and how is it not some evil trap by developers who want something from you. They don’t ever believe that I use software just as good as all theirs, for free. Well in trying to find a way to explain it to these people I cam across a wonderful article, by Robin Miller, for Newsforge, that puts it perfectly into perspective and seems to explain it just right. Anyways I’ll point you straight there, Why do programmers write open source software?

Update! I found a more recent article that is related, Here

My Ignorance

Filed under: posts — Nrub @ 7:37 pm

Often times I feel like I am completely new and amateur at some of the things in my life, in fact all of them. Which is expected as I am only a teenager, and of course I believe it is only natural for someone to feel like that always, its a good motivator sometimes. However every once and a while you meet that one person, we will call her Julia for reference, who is no smarter than a pile of bricks. Now you may wonder why I even mention Julia, well you see People like Julia give no hope for the future but, they do help specific people like me to know that you can’t be the biggest dolt on the planet. It amazes me how the Julia’s of the world somehow end up surviving. It is the perfect argument for survival of the fittest thinking. Julia’s shouldn’t be around if said theory were correct, but they are, and prevalent as well. I guess it’s another mystery in life, that will have to be answered by forgetfulness and apathy. And if I have offended any of you because your name is Julia and I have been referring to said stupid person as Julia, get over it it’s not like I was talking about you, most Julia’s don’t use the Internet in any knowledgeable way. Of course I doubt my website is a knowledgeable way to use the Internet.

The new thing

So I finally got this set up exactly how I want it. I no longer need to post straight to my wordpress site anymore, that has become my recieving satellite. All the sites I post and provide content for now are picked up through the magic of RSS by my WP installation at www.firstleft.net, and are displayed beautifully exactly how i want them. All the photos that I add too my Flickr, all my delicious links, and of course my new LiveJournal. My blog has basically become an automatic updating machine that simply makes my life easier. All I have to do is surf the internet like I regularly do and all of it is tied into wordpress as I sleep. RSS really is powerful and this seems to be just one of the good ways I have found a use for it You may also take note of how late it is. I love being an insomniac.
